What is Adenoidectomy?
Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the adenoids – a mass of lymphoid tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the tonsils. While adenoids help fight infection in children, they can become enlarged, chronically infected, or obstructive, causing breathing and ear problems. The surgery is common in children but may occasionally be required in adults.

Adenoidectomy Treatment
This is the traditional method where the surgeon removes the adenoid tissue using a curette (special surgical instrument). It is quick, effective, and commonly used in children. Mild bleeding may occur but is well-controlled.
A minimally invasive technique where a small camera is inserted through the nose to visualize the adenoids directly. The surgeon removes the adenoid tissue with high precision. Benefits include less bleeding, complete removal, faster recovery, and improved
breathing.
A powered instrument (microdebrider) shaves the adenoid tissue under endoscopic guidance. It allows controlled and smooth removal, especially in cases of regrowth or large adenoids. Often preferred for children with nasal obstruction or sinus issues.
Uses controlled radiofrequency energy combined with saline to dissolve adenoid tissue at low temperatures. Results in minimal pain, very low bleeding, and quicker recovery. Suitable for children and adults.
The surgeon uses radiofrequency probes to shrink the adenoid tissue instead of fully removing it.
Recommended in mild to moderate enlargement where reduction is sufficient.
When both adenoids and tonsils are enlarged, both may be removed together. This is commonly done in children with sleep apnea, chronic snoring, and recurrent throat infections.
Why You Should Not Delay
Delaying adenoid removal can lead to persistent breathing problems, sleep disturbances, hearing loss, or chronic sinus and ear infections. Early surgery ensures easier breathing, better sleep, and improved overall health in children and adults.
